Meriwether Lewis Born on August 18, 1774 Died on October 12, 1809 Died from gun shot wound and it is not known whether he committed suicide or was murdered. Was a dear friend of the Jefferson family. He served in the army this was where he met William Clark. President Jefferson would choose Lewis to lead the Corps of Discovery. Lewis would choose to have a co-captain who ended up being his army partner, William Clark. His crew would all make it home safely besides one death that occurred due to sickness at the beginning of their journey. Through the completion of the expedition he was able to bring back many drawings of maps and scientific information for research of the west. He would not have been able to complete this mission without his men and without the help of Sacagawea and her husband Toussaint Charbonneau who became their translators and their guides. Described as thoughtful and a worrier.
